Areas of Practice

Arbitration and Grievance Mediation

We have a record of success in arbitration hearings over unjust discipline and complex contract interpretation grievances. Our attorneys also represent unions in fact-finding hearings, conciliation and interest arbitrations. And we provide guidance to clients on how to use grievance mediation to resolve disputes without the need for a formal hearing.

Contract Negotiations

Our attorneys serve as lead negotiators and support national, multi-employer and single employer contract negotiations in the public and private sector. Whether a union is dealing with a Fortune 500 company, a large city, or a small shop, we help our clients succeed at the bargaining table. We work closely with officers, staff, negotiating committee members, communications teams, economists, researchers, and consultants to develop effective and powerful collective bargaining strategies and tactics.

We counsel executive boards, political action committees, and charitable organizations on a wide range of internal governance issues. Our experienced union attorneys administer elections, assist with constitutions and bylaws, and give advice on staffing issues. We also provide guidance on internal and external communications, social media, and press relations.

Internal Union Governance

Legislation

Organized labor is a powerful political voice in the United States. We work closely with our clients at the local, state, and national levels to place issues of importance to working people front and center in our democratic political process. We assist political action committees, review proposed legislation, and aid in the development of campaigns to enact pro-worker laws and regulations that strengthen our economy and our communities.

Litigation

When a union must litigate to defend employee rights or the organization itself, our attorneys bring an aggressive, highly skilled, and experienced approach to the court room. We practice in federal and state courts, before the National Labor Relations Board, the National Mediation Board, and state and local agencies that enforce labor laws. We have a record of successfully securing the best possible outcomes for our clients in a cost-effective manner.

Organizing

Millions of Americans want to join unions. Unfortunately, too many employers interfere with their right to representation at work. The job of a union attorney is to support and help organizers find ways to utilize our labor laws so the right of every worker to representation is fully realized. We assist clients with communications, campaign strategy, representation elections, voluntary recognition, 8(f) agreements, card check, and neutrality agreements.

Regulatory Compliance

Labor unions are highly regulated organizations. Our attorneys can help navigate complex regulatory frameworks so that unions meet their obligations under federal and state law. We provide advice on required filings and have experience working with the United States Department of Labor and other federal and state agencies.

Workers’ Compensation

A workplace injury or illness can result in serious health complications, lost wages and benefits, out of pocket medical expenses, difficulty meeting financial obligations and other problems at work. Employers use attorneys to protect their interests in workers’ compensation cases.  That is why workers who are injured on the job need high quality, affordable legal representation. Our firm works with injured workers to ensure their rights are protected and they receive the compensation they are entitled to under the law.
